The name Amber stems from the Arabic word « Alanbar » meaning golden. The amber is not a mineral. It is a vegetal fossil resin produced by a conifer tree called Pinus millions of years ago, which today is now extinct. From light yellow to golden brown, the citrine is yellowish variety of transparent quartz. Because natural citrine is quite rare, it is often obtained by heating the amethyst.
